Project: Age After Age
Age After Age

Age After Age is a large-scale economic strategy game focused on civilization development, resource management, logistics and long-term strategic planning across different eras. The project emphasizes economic depth, systemic progression, and scalable simulation mechanics. The global goal is to create a city-building game for everyone in terms of lore, visuals and universe — to please realistic, fantasy, and Sci-Fi players at once, letting them explore other interesting universes. Farom Studio executed the full development cycle — from core concept and system architecture to implementation, balancing, and optimization. What we did? Full Development Cycle We led the project through all production stages — concept validation, economic systems design, technical implementation, balancing, QA cycles, and ongoing post-release support. The focus was a scalable economic simulation capable of supporting long-term progression without exponential imbalance: all city resources stay in use until the end, and all citizen classes are needed to sustain the city. Game Design & Economic Systems Architecture We designed and implemented: • Multi-era progression system • Resource production and consumption chains • Population growth and workforce distribution logic • Infrastructure development mechanics • Logistics system — letting the player optimize production • Global trade system — a global supply/demand network • Diplomacy system — deals, trades, support, or sabotage • Expedition system — research each island and uncover its secrets • Technological advancement trees • Economic modifiers and efficiency systems All systems are interconnected, creating a layered economic ecosystem rather than isolated mechanics, with special attention to mathematical balance and sustainable growth curves. World & Map Design The strategic map was structured around resource distribution, regional specialization, infrastructure scaling, expansion planning and storytelling. It supports economic decision-making — encouraging strategic specialization over linear expansion — and tells the history of the island and the world the player is in. Engineering (Core Systems / Unreal Engine) We implemented a data-driven economy simulation, tick-based calculation systems, resource-flow architecture, save/load stability for large datasets, a modular progression framework, and building clusterization to reduce calculations in the late game. Blueprints enabled rapid iteration, while C++ ensured stable performance under high simulation load. UI/UX Design We designed an interface that clearly visualizes production chains, surfaces economic bottlenecks, simplifies management of large-scale infrastructure, minimizes cognitive overload, and stays visually pretty and fun to click. The UI prioritizes transparency — players understand cause-and-effect in their economy. Optimization We focused on CPU optimization for economic calculations, efficient data structures for large-scale resource tracking, tick-rate balancing, late-stage scalability testing, and a special render/animation system that only plays animations the player can actually see. This keeps performance stable even with large populations and advanced infrastructure networks. QA Testing Our QA covered economic balance validation, long-session stability, save-state integrity, and regression testing across updates — with daily tests and weekly playtests. Special attention was given to late-game stability and exponential growth prevention. Why is this important? Economic strategy games rely on systemic coherence. Without stable architecture, progression breaks, balance collapses, and the late game becomes unstable. Age After Age shows how structured system design, disciplined engineering, and continuous balancing create a sustainable economic simulation — ensuring long-term replayability, stable large-scale simulations, and predictable performance under heavy load. In short, Age After Age is a city-building RTS with active pause, focused on logistics and production chains, city management through laws and events, era switching that changes resources/buildings/citizens/needs, micro and macroeconomic planning, global supply-and-demand trade, seasonal challenges, and deep research. Big content is planned after release. Want a game like this? Contact us, and we will help bring your world to life!
